 What is Search Engine Optimization?

The process of optimising your website for search engines with the aim of raising your placement in search results and gaining more natural (unpaid) traffic is known as search engine optimization (SEO).

SEO was first used in 1990s when search engines were used for the first time.

SEO , along with Pay Per Click (PPC) form Search Engine Marketing (SEM). However,SEO focuses only on organic research and not on PPC optimization.

Generally speaking, all the actions that are done to make a website popular and improve its ranking come under SEO.


3 key aspects of SEO

There are many algorithms and methods available for SEO but there are 3 key aspects that are imporant for good SEO.

These aspects are as follows:

1. Technical Stuff:

The first and foremost important thing in SEO is the technical stuff which consists of                              various technical aspects. SEO including technical stuff is also called on-page SEO.

2. Content:

Content is the most important part of a website. A website with good content is likely to be more popular than a website with average or poor content. The quality of content is also related to rankings. Good quality content=Higher rankings.

3.Quality backlinks:

Quality backlinks help to gain authority. A website may have good quality content but having less quality backlinks can result in lower SEO rankings.


Types of SEO

There are many types of SEO available for websites. Some of the important types of SEO are discussed below.

1. On-page SEO

In simple words, on page SEO includes everything that is done on the website to improve its rankings. Some important techniques of On-page SEO are:

a. Keyword research

b. Title tag optimization

c. Content optimization

d. Internal linking

2. Off-page SEO

In simple words, off-page SEO means everything that is done outside of the website for rank improvement. It includes:

a. Guest blogging

b. Email outreach

c. Broken link building

Off-page SEO is also strongly related to other forms of online marketing, such as branding and social media marketing, which indirectly contribute to the development of your website's authority and trust.

Remember for good ranking, both on-page as well as off-page SEO is needed.

3. Black hat SEO

Black hat SEO is a collection of unethical (and frequently spammy) techniques used to raise a website's rankings.

These methods can boost your website to the top of search results quickly, but sooner or later, search engines will most likely penalise and blacklist the website.

4. White hat SEO

White hat SEO refers to all legal and valid techniques that can be used to improve website ranking. It is a long term approach that requires content research,good optimization and a user oriented approach.

There are other SEO techniques as well such as Local SEO, International SEO,Content SEO, Ecommerce SEO etc.
